The Bulldog went from #16 in 2003 to #5 in 2013 and in 2015 he is now #5 in the Most Popular Dog Breed list from AKC. He is part of the Utility Group (Non Sporting Group). The Bulldog started life out as a dog that "Bull-baited" he had to be tough and mean to take that type of work. Once this was illegal the owners bred out the bad temperament and made the breed we know today. One that is nice to be with and dignified but also wants to be a lap dog. A great family dog, makes strong bonds with kids and has little exercise and grooming needs. Special needs in hot weather means short walks early or late in the day.
